Business uptake of Office 365 is growing rapidly in Ireland and across the world, largely thanks to its ability to cater for the needs of organisations of all sizes. According to Bitglass’ 2018 Cloud Adoption Report, global cloud adoption reached an all-time high of 81%, with 56.3% of all organisations adopting Office 365.

But what is Office 365? And how does it work?

What is Office 365?

Office 365 is a suite of integrated apps and services, designed specifically for business. It includes the office apps your business has already become accustomed to; including apps like Word, Excel, PowerPoint, and more.

These apps come with the latest features and security updates on a monthly basis, so your entire company is always using the latest, most up-to-date versions.

And, with OneDrive cloud storage for your files, and Office mobile apps, you can get things done anywhere, on virtually any device.

How does Office 365 work?

For a low monthly or yearly cost, you get access to the suite of Office apps to install on your PC or Mac. And you receive continuous updates for these apps each month.

The OneDrive app allows your files to be stored securely in the cloud. This means that you can access them from anywhere. You can store any type of file including your images, documents, spreadsheets, presentations and more.

Office 365 also comes with mobile versions of Office for all of your devices that include premium features that aren’t available anywhere else.

So, you can start working on files on your PC or Mac, continue on your tablet, and finish up on your mobile!

What is the difference between Office 2019 and Office 365?

The main difference between Microsoft Office 2019 and Office 365 is that Microsoft Office 2019 is a one-time purchase, for one computer, that is supported by Microsoft for around 7 years. Although, you get monthly security updates, you don’t get any of the upgrades, new features or functionalities. If you want additional features, you need to purchase a new edition.

As we’ve said, Office 365 is a subscription service, so you pay a small monthly or annual cost instead of a big one-time purchase. This can provide great saving opportunities and help spread costs over time.

The other main difference is that Office 2019 can only be installed once on either a PC or Mac. With Office 365 however, you can install your apps on all your devices and sign in to 5 at the same time. This includes PCs, Macs, tablets, and phones.

The last big difference, we have already touched on. With your Office 365 subscription you can access your business files from anywhere because your files are stored securely in the cloud with OneDrive.
